Red Point Blow Hole on St. Thomas is one of the most dramatic eco-attractions in the US Virgin Islands

It's just easier... to be eco-friendly in the US Virgin Islands

Explore 'inner space' in the USVI by choosing one of our world-class eco-resorts.  Whether you want to vacation 'close to nature' in one of our campgrounds or ecolodges on St. John - or help 'save our planet' by vacationing in a resort that follows 'environmental friendly' guidelines on St. Thomas or St. Croix - you'll have a great time discovering the natural beauty of the US Virgin Islands.

No matter where you stay, you'll want to explore the beauty of the new Magen's Bay Discovery Trail and the Botanical Gardens on St. Thomas and visit Buck Island off the coast of St. Croix.  Since two thirds of St. John is covered by the Virgin Islands National Park - it is an exceptional opportunity to explore our pristine island environment.

If you're lucky enough to visit St. Thomas from January through April, join us for the annual migration of humpback whales along the north shore of St. Thomas.  Whale watching tours by catamaran can be arranged by your hotel. The South coast of St. Thomas is endowed with the attractive and protected Mangrove Lagoon Wildlife Sanctuary & Marine Reserve of exceptional natural value and is filled with scenic contrasts: manglar islands, rocky cliffs, shallow clear waters with sea grass beds, ponds and panoramic ridge lines.  These natural areas which provide a rich nursery area for nearby offshore coral reefs and homes to nesting egrets, pelicans, herons and terns, offer recreational and educational opportunities for all.

On St. Croix, there are educational hiking tours during the fall Leatherback Turtle nesting season at the Sandy Point Wildlife Refuge.

For Birdwatchers, there are over 160 species of birds in the US Virgin Islands including brown pelicans, white cattle egrets, brown booby, frigate birds, Mangrove cuckoos, yellow-breasted bananaquilts, warblers, herons and more... The Virgin Islands National Park on St. John is the center of most birdwatching in the Virgin Islands and is easily reached by ferry from St. Thomas. St. Croix has popular bird watching areas in The West End Forrest and Sandy Point Wildlife Refuge. Birdwatchers on St. Thomas enjoy the Moonlight Kayak Tour in the Mangrove Wildlife Sanctuary to view the prolific nesting birds at sunset.

The following hotels eco-lodges and eco-friendly resorts have special programs that help preserve the environment and let you enjoy the beauty of our islands in an unspoiled environment.

Once you've selected a hotel, see our listing of Eco-Adventure Tours for information on how you can enjoy an Ecotour in the US Virgin Islands!
